There are breakthrough moments in any generation. These come when the forces of history meet with the forces of great personalities, and the moment is ripe for change. The passage of the Americans with Disabilities act in 1990 was certainly one of these. Like any moment, it was preceded by an enormous push from great thinkers, and great doers, who struggled to make it a possibility. There are also the generations that preceded them, and this is often the case in moments where things change for the good.
One of the key figures behind getting the act passed was Justin Whitlock Dart, Jr. . He does indeed emulate his great heroes, people like Ghandi and King, when he would point out that his achievements came from the support of hundreds, and the legacies of so many more.
It is because of figures like him, however, that those for whom long term disability denial comes as an injustice, have some recourse. The revolutionary thinking of Dart was present in many areas, and he fought for many causes, making the world a more just and fair place. But he himself was a victim of polio, which gave him a special fire for advocating for the rights of the disabled.

Much of the hassle that most people traditionally associated with filing taxes has gone away. People no longer have to gather forms and schedules from various offices and agencies; they are all available online. There are no complex calculations or worksheets to manually fill out; by preparing taxes online, the software does all the math. And there is no need to worry about envelops, copying forms, and putting the right amount of postage on a return because e-filing is the preferred method of submitting taxes.
In fact, the IRS is so committed to getting people to e-file that the government has a program of free tax filing . Under this program, tax preparation companies are offering free e-filing to individuals who meet certain income guidelines. Individuals just log in to the online service, complete their taxes on the secure server, and then submit the return electronically. They are able to save a copy of the return, complete with all schedules and worksheets, and the IRS lets them know through the preparation service, whether their return has been accepted — usually within two days.
The government has set some minimum standards for the free filing program. However, most preparation companies have exceeded those, allowing individuals with higher adjusted gross incomes to efile for free. Taxpayers can consult their favorite site or check with the IRS to see if they meet the income requirements. In addition, some companies are offering free e-filing of state returns, which makes the whole process of dealing with taxes that much easier for many people.

The average America goes through the day without giving a single thought to the science on which modern existence depends. Clothing, food, shelter and medicine have all benefited from countless scientific discoveries over time. Using a microwave, computer, or cell phone means depending on a multitude of scientific principles and applications. Even the water that they drink is a direct result of scientific discovery.
It may seem obvious that water filters are part of science, but how many people actually stop to think about how they work? About the science that is involved in simply turning on a tap and expecting clean, drinkable water to appear almost instantly?
The science begins with the understanding that water is filled with impurities that are harmful to humans. Figuring out how to effectively and affordably eliminate those impurities was the work of countless scientists, some of whom continue to work today to make the processes even better. They discovered that to remove large hazardous particles, they could force water through a physical barrier with minute holes. The water that emerges on the other side is free from all the impurities too large to fit through the holes. By experimenting with different materials and smaller and smaller holes, they were able to design water filters that eliminate nearly all impurities from drinking water .
Other scientists investigated the use of natural biological processes as well as how certain chemicals interact with water. They found that by using these processes they were able to pull out or neutralize harmful chemicals from water to make it safe to drink.
Most government water treatment plants and commercial plants that bottle water for sale rely on these scientific principles to deliver clean drinking water to homes throughout the country.

It is easy for Americans to complain about the rising costs of health care in this country. It is almost a cliche now, the idea that doctors, hospitals, and even dentists are making small fortunes off the suffering of their patients. However, medical professionals can attest to the high costs associated with opening and maintaining an office. Dentists alone must invest thousands of dollars in order to start a practice — long before they have even a single patient to bill.
The reason that most dentists can be found in a group practice rather than a solo office is the cost of doing business can be prohibitive. Think just about the sheer amount of specialized equipment needed to take care of teeth and it’s easy to see why dental practice financing is a growing part of the financial industry. Dentists need special cameras, xrays and treatment tools. They require exam chairs that integrate other equipment and can be connected to electronic diagnosis and charting systems. They also need basic things like sterilization tools and hand tools.
Outside of treatment, a dentist office looks like other offices. It needs a reception area, computer systems for scheduling and billing, copy machines, and a working office for the dentist. Staffing an office means finding qualified dental technicians as well as professionals familiar with the complexities of medical scheduling and billing systems. Top it off with various forms of insurance, including malpractice insurance , as well as maintaining dental licenses and it is obvious that the costs of doing business are very high for dentists.

It is important for anyone who sustains a serious injury on the job to consider consulting a lawyer. The laws surrounding workers comp are complicated and vary from location to location. Hiring the right Ft Lauderdale Workers Compensation Attorney can be the difference between signing away your rights and getting adequate financial support and compensation.
Workers compensation is designed to pay for the medical costs associated with the injury as well as replacing income that is lost while the worker is being treated and recovering. Other claims can cover economic loss as well as death benefits payable to families of workers killed at work. However, it is possible to forfeit some or all of these benefits if the claims are filed incorrectly. It is also possible that accepting a workers comp payoff will forfeit the right to sue the employer for damages. All of this makes outside legal advice a valuable resource in navigating the claim process.

It is when a serious or debilitating injury occurs that workers need to seek expert advice — especially if the accident is the result of equipment failure or company negligence.

By the end of 2010 the housing markets in many areas were finally beginning to show signs of recovery. While there are likely to be future stalls and even setbacks, a slow climb out of the bottom is underway. This is encouraging not only home buyers to venture back into the market, but it’s inspiring homeowners to take steps to improve the value of their homes.
Investing in home repairs, renovations, or even improvements can be costly, but if planned properly, they will add value to the home in two ways. First, the improvements will make the home more energy efficient and, therefore, cheaper to maintain while the current owner still calls it home. Second, some improvements will actually increase a home’s resale value, even if doesn’t go back on the market right away.
There are a number of improvements that fit into this investment model. New siding, landscaping, or installing a new feature like a patio or swimming pool can add value to a home. Homeowners can also invest in door and window replacement , install energy-saving water heaters or HVAC systems, or upgrade the plumbing in a house.
As long as they do the math to ensure that they are recouping the financial investment of the project, there’s no reason to wait to make even major improvements to a home. Calculations should take into consideration both the savings in energy costs of improvements while the owner still lives in the home as well as the projected increase in the resale value. That’s how a homeowner will know if the project is a good investment.

The restaurant business is the dream of many chefs, foodies, and business dreamers. Even people with no connection to the food industry have wondered what it would be like to own their own restaurant. They may imagine taking the best elements from all their favorite eateries to create the perfect restaurant. The true test of how much someone knows about the business is to ask them about restaurant menu covers.
Menu covers in their simplest form are a clear plastic cover that protects the actual menu from stains, tears, and other damage. Diners and family restaurants tend to favor this type of cover, because of the number of kids and busy parents who will be handling the menus. The cover not only protects the paper of the menu, it makes it easy to clean. Instead of tossing out a menu that’s been stained, it’s a matter of wiping off the spill and handing the menu to the next customer.
Higher end menu covers are quite different. They may be beautiful leather folders or even bound books. The menu is elegantly displayed, but somewhat exposed. The menu cover still provides protection, but more importantly it contributes to the overall feel of the restaurant by blending in with the decor. It is even possible to get customized menu covers in different shapes, sizes, or with the restaurant name and details embossed or etched into the cover.
Someone who has not only fantasized about the food, decor, and name of a restaurant but who knows the ins and outs of various menu covers has a much better chance of succeeding in the restaurant business should they ever get the money to open their own place.

The photo booth is not a new invention. It actually dates back to the early twentieth century and a Russian immigrant named Anatol Josepho. He first conceived of the idea of an instant photo machine when he was still a teenager. It wasn’t until 1925, now in his 30s, that Josepho was able to perfect his plans and gather investors to fund the endeavor. Within months of the first Photomaton Studio opening in New York City he had up to 7500 people lining up every day to pay a quarter for a strip of eight photos.
In 1927, Josepho sold the patent and the machines to Henry Morganthau for $1 million dollars (this at a time when the average home cost $2000). Photo booths became popular all over the world. Many were located in drug stores and outside department stores. When developers started building malls, the photo booths moved in there too.
In the 1990s there was a resurgence of photo booths, which had dropped off with the demise of drug stores and the rise of more upscale malls. The booths found their way into arcades and back into malls. With the availability of photo booth rentals, people are now able to have them at parties, weddings, and other gatherings. By using digital equipment, they can be customized for each event with messages, dates, and even the number of photos to print.

The islands of Hawaii are meant to be explored and experienced in the fresh air and sun. There’s little point in traveling to Maui and staying inside all day. If you do, you’ll miss the natural beauty and perfect climate that are the island’s most attractive features. Get out of that hotel room and discover all the wonderful things that make Maui one of the jewels of Hawaii.
Any trip to Maui should start and end with the ocean. Surfing, scuba diving, para-sailing, and windsurfing are all popular activities. Take a whale watching trip or a moonlight cruise for a different view of the waters around the island. Or just lay on the beach all day and imagine you don’t ever have to go home.
Make sure to spend time exploring the interior of the island too. Maui has some breathtaking mountain views, beautiful parks and jungle-like forests. Check out maui bike rentals or borrow a horse to wind through some of the back trails in parks and nature preserves which are sprinkled all over the island. You can hike around volcanic craters, camp in tropical forests or get a bird’s eye view by taking a helicopter tour.
Whatever you choose to do, just make sure it’s outside. If you’re not enjoying the warm temperatures, sunny skies, and incredible natural wonders of the island, you might as well take a vacation to Buffalo where staying inside all winter makes sense.
